Action from today's game
Despite the water-logged car park at Woodmarsh Lane, the football pitch was in top condition and it witnessed an impressive win for Trowbridge Town ‘D’ against the Rovers on Sunday afternoon.
The game got off to a frenetic start with end-to-end football which resulted in a first goal for Trowbridge and an equaliser from Archie with a powerful shot that hit the roof of the net. 5 minutes into the game, the score was 2-1 when a Trowbridge corner evaded our defence and sneaked into the goal. Things then settled down with both teams in turn pushing forward and defending well. Isaac had a very bright half racing up and down the right wing, both in attack and tracking back to defend when required. Between Sam and Tom, any Trowbridge attack was being thwarted in admirable fashion.
We went into half time with the game still very much for the taking, Trowbridge with their slender lead of a single goal. However as the 2nd half got underway, it looked like Trowbridge had the greater hunger for more goals. Time and again they broke forward in what appeared to be acres of space and but for some sterling defending by Sam, Dom and Henry and some athletic saves from Tom, they would have been well ahead. However, the pressure finally told with a long range thunderbolt hitting the top corner of the net.
The Rovers did not give up and continued to go forward with some great moves up the left wing, Alex and Joe combining well to bring the ball forward. On a number of occasions, Joe whipped good crosses into the area, but we were unable to capitalise on these. Trowbridge still looked menacing on the break and one of these forays lead to their fourth goal, another cracker into the top left corner of the net.
We continued to push forward but with time ticking on we were unable to get a second goal despite some good work from both Patrick and Archie. Final score 4-1! At the post match team huddle, Peter left the players with some tactical thoughts to contemplate over the turkey. Enjoy your Christmas break and here’s looking forward to some pulsating games in the New Year!
