Action from the game against Melksham

After bouts of snow, heavy rain and flooding, that has disrupted the football season since Christmas, the weather was perfect for football this weekend and the Bradford Town pitch was in excellent condition.

Coming off the back of successive defeats Bradford Rovers were not short of confidence as they set about the game and the first ten minutes were keenly contested. However, seven minutes before half-time George Evans beat Rovers’ keeper Patrick Bates with a crisp shot.

During the second half, Bradford pushed forward looking for an equaliser but began to leave gaps at the back and it was not long before Kai Bush sealed Melksham’s victory with a well struck second goal. Bradford continued to attempt to find an opening but at the other end Melksham forwards were guilty of missing gild-edged chances as they fired over the bar from just a few yards out. But a hard-fought and enjoyable game finished Bradford Town 0 Melksham Town Youth Saints 2.

Action from the game against Corsham

Action from the game against Corsham

A BITING wind and a few puddles by the touchline signalled the restart of the football season for Bradford Rovers following the Christmas break as they hosted Corsham Leopards.

After a run of four games without a win Bradford were keen to make a good impression and they played some nice football in the first half, with some crisp passing and resolute defending, but they rarely troubled the Corsham goalkeeper and had to rely on their own goalkeeper, Tom Hughes, to make a number of crucial saves.

Hughes was again called into action after the restart but could do nothing to stop a fine shot from Callus Emerson-Hicks that gave Corsham the lead early in the second half Bradford fought back but were quickly caught on the break down the right. The ball was beautifully delivered across the box for an easy tap-in for Sam Whale at the far post.

At 2-0 down Bradford changed their strikers around and created a couple of chances to reduce the deficit, but the next goal went to Corsham when William Cornwall broke away to score a fine individual goal. There was now no way back for Bradford and the game ended with Corsham winning 3-0.

Action from today's game

Despite the water-logged car park at Woodmarsh Lane, the football pitch was in top condition and it witnessed an impressive win for Trowbridge Town ‘D’ against the Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

The game got off to a frenetic start with end-to-end football which resulted in a first goal for Trowbridge and an equaliser from Archie with a powerful shot that hit the roof of the net. 5 minutes into the game, the score was 2-1 when a Trowbridge corner evaded our defence and sneaked into the goal. Things then settled down with both teams in turn pushing forward and defending well. Isaac had a very bright half racing up and down the right wing, both in attack and tracking back to defend when required. Between Sam and Tom, any Trowbridge attack was being thwarted in admirable fashion.

We went into half time with the game still very much for the taking, Trowbridge with their slender lead of a single goal. However as the 2nd half got underway, it looked like Trowbridge had the greater hunger for more goals. Time and again they broke forward in what appeared to be acres of space and but for some sterling defending by Sam, Dom and Henry and some athletic saves from Tom, they would have been well ahead. However, the pressure finally told with a long range thunderbolt hitting the top corner of the net.

The Rovers did not give up and continued to go forward with some great moves up the left wing, Alex and Joe combining well to bring the ball forward. On a number of occasions, Joe whipped good crosses into the area, but we were unable to capitalise on these. Trowbridge still looked menacing on the break and one of these forays lead to their fourth goal, another cracker into the top left corner of the net.

We continued to push forward but with time ticking on we were unable to get a second goal despite some good work from both Patrick and Archie. Final score 4-1! At the post match team huddle, Peter left the players with some tactical thoughts to contemplate over the turkey. Enjoy your Christmas break and here’s looking forward to some pulsating games in the New Year!

Action from Saturday's game

At the half time interval between Warminster Highbury B and Bradford Town Rovers there was little indication that the goals would start flowing in the second half. The first half had been highly competitive and fairly even with the goalkeepers very much on top of their game and both sides had found it difficult to find that telling final ball.

Following the restart, the game followed the same pattern with both ‘keepers commanding their areas and making important saves. However, Warminster finally got their noses in front when Bradford conceded a corner and the resultant cross was brilliantly headed in by Chris Office – headed set pieces don’t come very often at Under 10 level!

However, the lead lasted for only three minutes before Finn Dewar advanced through midfield and hit a powerful shot that the Warminster ‘keeper could only parry into the net. Both sides now looked more dangerous in front of goal and it was not long before Warminster were back in front when Sam Rabczak took advantage of a rebound to turn the ball into the net from close range for what looked like the winning goal. But with the clock running down and a second away defeat in a week looming, there was just time for Bradford to summon up a second equaliser when Archie Sidwell drilled the ball home from a tight angle to make the final score 2-2.
